The Management Committee of Sri Guru Ravidass Sabha, Medway, extend their warmest greetings to all on the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidass Ji.

As we look toward the year 2026, we are preparing to honour the life, legacy, and timeless Gurbani of the Guru through two significant observances. We invite you and your families to join us in these moments of spiritual reflection and community unity.

Why we celebrate

Guru Ravidass Ji wasn’t just a spiritual leader; he was a champion of human rights. In a world that sought to divide people by birth and occupation, he stood firm in the belief that:

“The Lord resides in every heart; no soul is superior or inferior.”

His 40 hymns preserved in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji continue to guide us toward a life of humility, hard work (Kirat Karni), and unwavering devotion.

The message of Begampura

Guru Ravidass Ji’s contributions to the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji offer a roadmap for a just and compassionate society. His vision of Begampura—a “city without sorrow”—serves as a reminder that spiritual liberation is inseparable from social dignity and the rejection of prejudice.

At Sri Guru Ravidass Sabha, Medway, we strive to uphold these principles by ensuring our doors remain open to all, regardless of background, fostering a spirit of Sarbat da Bhala (the well-being of all).

Forward look

To accommodate the spiritual needs of our Sangat and ensure a grand celebration of the Guru’s teachings, our observances will be held as follows:

  1. Sunday, 1 February 2026 (Prakash Gurpurab): We will mark the traditional birth anniversary with a special morning Diwan, Aarti, and Ardas. This is a day for the Sangat to gather in gratitude for the light of wisdom brought into this world by Guru Ravidass Ji.
  2. Sunday, 1 March 2026 (Gurpurab Smagam): Our primary community celebration will take place on the first of March. This event will feature an expanded program of Kirtan and Katha, providing a deeper exploration of the Guru’s message of equality and devotion.

Special guest performance: Taj Nagina

We are delighted to announce that the renowned singer Taj Nagina will be joining us on 1 March to share his soulful renditions of devotional songs. Known for moving tributes such as “Sade Guru da Janamdin,” Taj Nagina’s performance will help us celebrate the joy of the Guru’s advent through the power of music and song. His participation promises to make this year’s smagam a truly uplifting experience for all in attendance.

Program highlights & sewa

The celebration on 1 March will include:

  • Kirtan: Devotional singing.
  • Katha (religious narrative): Reflections on the Guru’s life and the relevance of his teachings.
  • Guru ka langar: In keeping with tradition, langar will be served throughout the day. We welcome all visitors to share in this meal together.

A call for sewa: The success of our Gurpurab celebrations relies on the dedicated service of our volunteers. We encourage members of the sangat to come forward for sewa in the days leading up to the event. Whether through langar preparation or assistance with the gurdwara sahib maintenance, your contribution is greatly valued.

We hope this season of celebration brings peace and inspiration to your homes. Let us come together to honour Guru Ravidass Ji whose words continue to break barriers and unite hearts.
